Grow Op at the Gladstone Hotel

Experimental Project

Terrena was installed in the gallery room of Toronto’s Gladstone Hotel for Grow Op, a four day exhibition celebrating urbanism, landscape, and contemporary art. Terrena is a modular plant system that emulates the natural topography of Toronto’s historical ravines. The installation consists of three plots of grass supported by structural beams. Below each grass plot, mirrors were installed to allow spectators to observe the root systems of the grass. The theme of this year’s Grow Op event was “Cultivating Curiousity.” By showcasing the substratum of grass, Terrena cultivates curiosity around unseen infrastructure in the natural world.
